Completed Trailer

This is my final trailer. My laptop unfortunately crashed and during the process of being fixed the software I was using and footage was wiped meaning that I cannot add to the trailer anymore.

00:00 to 00:05 - I have moved the greenband and company logo's to the very start of the trailer as this seems to be a more common convention in a horror trailer and was also suggested in some of my feedback. I decided to go with this feedback as meeting the needs and expectations of the target audience is important in creating the best trailer i can.
I cut down the scene from 00:08 to 00:10 as this footage was said to be, from feedback, too shaky also and would have the better desired effect it if were to be cut down slightly.
The audience were also concerned with the fact that they didn't seem to understand the trailer as some footage was either to shaky or in the wrong order. To correct this I have taken out or cut some footage to reduce a shaky camera. I then carefully reordered the footage as to not repeat myself or give away important parts of the storyline.
The beggining walking scenes (around 00:12 to 00:18) were cut down as to save time and get to the point. A teaser trailer is very short and should give the audience as much information as possible without giving anything away in order for them to want to watch the film and find out. By cutting down the walking scenes my trailer had more time to spend on the actual point.
The Axe weapon scene at 0:21 was said to be too dark to be able to recognise that it was an axe being sharpened so I lightened the scene making it clearer for the audience.  The lighting effect on 0:24 has been used to connote the supernatural side of the film, this is also portrayed through the shot of a character disappearing at the beginning. 0:25 shows that the producers behind this film were also behind creating well known horror film 'The Ring' this would automatically draw attention to fans of these directors/producers of fans of The Ring. The hut sccene at 0:31 has also been cut shorter as to save time on showing the floor focusing the shot more on the actual hut. This gives it a significance connoting its importance in the film. This is also connoted through the use of a low camera angle. The light shining through the trees shows the light and normality of the 'normal, outside' world compared to the darkness inside the woodlands and surrounding the hut. 0:33 and 0:35 shows two reviews of the movie giving the audience an idea of how good the film is and whether or not it is worth seeing. They are both reviews by credited reviewers. Both reviews have been written in white font on a black background making it stand out. At the end of the review is the name of the reviewers company, this font has a red tint to it at the bottom to fit in with the horror/thriller dangerous theme. A fast action sequence is included in order to build up the tension of the viewer and then cut off in order to make them want more, this will draw them into researching the film and going to see it when it is released.
I also cut down the overall length of time of the trailer to 56 seconds. This allowed the audience enough time to become interested in the trailer and the film but also leaves them wanting to see more and find out the main storyline - this is the purpose of a teaser trailer as the audience will then want to see the film in order to find this out.

Feedback

The majority of the feedback for my trailer was based around my music change at the end and an unclear storyline. I will show how I have taken the feedback on board in the same post as my final draft.

Horror movie poster analysis

TITLE: The title is placed at the bottom of the poster in a central location. The font is a blood red colour connoting the horror and danger within the film, it is also a serif font compared to the other text on the poster, which are sans-serif, making it stand out as the title. It is also significantly larger than the other text.
Other text on the page includes the slogan, date and credits. These are all in sans-serif fonts making them sharp and simple so that they are clear.
SLOGAN: He knows where you sleep.
The slogan is located centrally above the title. This is unusual for other film genre posters but a common convention for horror/thriller posters. The slogan itself is short and simple but also gives off a scary effect. It insinuates that the killer is able to get to you at all points because he knows 'where you sleep' and where you are at most times. The slogan, date and credits are all coloured white to make the main title stand out.
MAIN IMAGE: The main image is the absolute focus of the poster, it is the centre of attention and draws peoples attention in. Both main characters are in a central location making them to main eye point. The light shining in through the back window could signify a light of hope for the young girl character, but as the attacker is standing in the way blocking the light, he connotes that he is blocking any glimmer of hope she has of being able to stay safe.  The black border around the edge focus' on the centre.
COLOUR SCHEME: The colour palette consists of reds, orange and black. The red colours connote danger, horror and blood. The black connotes the darkness of the story and that there is little place for the girl to hide.
CHARACTERS: Two characters are shown on the movie poster leading the audience to believe that these are the main two characters, typically the attacker and the victim. The first character is placed higher up, looking down upon the other character connoting a position of power and authority leading us to believe that this is the attacker rather than the victim. The second character appears vulnerable and innocent as she is smaller than the first character and placed lower down. There is more focus of authority of the first character whilst the girl is shown with a lost, sad, scared facial expression. It appears as though she is surrounded by a pool of blood signifying her possible troubles throughout the film and the consequences of what may happen to her. This draws the audiences attention to want to find out whether she survives or not. There is not much focus on the weapon like in some horror movie posters however it can still be spotted. The first characters face is covered so not to show the audience who the attacker is, consequently giving away part of the storyline.

Completed Trailer

Since receiving feedback from a selection of my target audience aged 14 and 15, I have made the nessecary changes for my trailer to suit their ideas and suggestions on how to improve. The majority of the feedback was focused upon making the story line more clear without giving the story away and changing the music break at the end of the trailer.
You can see straight away the first change I made, this was to the order of the credits. After a feedback suggestion that I should place the green band and production logos after one another instead of close together I moved them to all be placed at the beginning of the trailer. This is also a typical convention of most genre movie trailers - including horror/thriller. I then proceeded onto cutting down the scene from 0:05 to 0:09 as I received feedback stating that the camera work ended to shaky.
The walking scenes from 0:18 to 0:22 were also cut down in length as they seemed too long, the black and white flashforward scenes were also removed as many people didn't understand why they was there. I removed them as to reduce confusion for my audience which could lead to them being put off seeing the film. The Axe weapon scene at 0:26 was said to be too dark to be able to recognise that it was an axe being sharpened so I lightened the scene making it clearer for the audience. The lighting effect on 0:29 has been used to connote the supernatural side of the film, this is also portrayed through the shot of a character disappearing at the beginning. 0:30 shows that the producers behind this film were also behind creating well known horror film 'The Ring' this would automatically draw attention to fans of these directors/producers of fans of The Ring. After this a few new scenes have been added as to make the storyline of the trailer clearer and in order. The hut sccene at 0:37 has also been cut shorter as to save time on showing the floor focusing the shot more on the actual hut. This gives it a significance connoting its importance in the film. This is also connoted through the use of a low camera angle. The light shining through the trees shows the light and normality of the 'normal, outside' world compared to the darkness inside the woodlands and surrounding the hut. 0:39 and 0:40 shows two reviews of the movie giving the audience an idea of how good the film is and whether or not it is worth seeing. They are both reviews by credited reviewers. Both reviews have been written in white font on a black background making it stand out. At the end of the review is the name of the reviewers company, this font has a red tint to it at the bottom to fit in with the horror/thriller dangerous theme. 0:44 to 0:46 have been included again to make more of a storyline.  The music then increases in pace as well as the scenes. This is called a fast action sequence and connotes action and thrill which will encourage the audience to see the film.

I have also generally reduced the time length of the trailer as my research shows teaser trailers tend to be around 1 minute whilst my last draft was almost 1:30.

What is a Movie Magazine?

A movie magazine is dedicated to giving their readers information on the latest and greatest movies.
They tend to include;

  • Descriptions
  • Reviews
  • Interviews
  • Posters
  • Movie News
Many different types of movie magazines are available suiting to each individual taste, such as Scream Magazine is fully focused on horror films, however most movie magazines are generalised and feature a variety of different film genres. The most famous film magazines are:

Using Photoshop

I am now beginning to learn the different aspects of photoshop such as blending photos together on their different layers and editing each different layer.

Tagline

Tagline: 'secrets are made to be found out with time'
I have decided to use this an my tagline as this tells the audience that the story is based around a secret which will eventually be revealed. This will draw them into wanting to find out what the secret is.
The tagline links with the trailer because the trailer shows the girl is kidnapped with the texts giving the impression it could be someone she knows therefore this could possibly be the secret.

Magazine Cover Ideas

For the magazine cover I aim to have the main character shown on the cover as well as a location linked to the film, I am going to take a few different types of photos on the photoshoot to see which style works best. The different types I am thinking of at the moment are a long shot with the character placed in the middle of the scene, a close up shot of the victim & a location shot.

Poster Moodboard

Poster Moodboard -

I have used this moodboard to put a collection of horror thriller movie posters together. I can use these as inspiration as I can see them collectively. Almost every poster here (except for 3) have located the film name at the bottom of the poster, those who havent have somehow encorporated the name within the image or placed it so it doesn't cover too much of the image. The posters are all relatively simple in comprarrison to a comedy movie poster. The colour schemes tend to be white, red and black, other colours included are all darker colours such as browns or dark oranges. The taglines are mostly located at the bottom of the page underneath or above the title. Any important aspects of the posters are placed centrally to draw attention and focus. This is a horror/thriller movie convention, compared to a comedy or drama where in the grid the focus points are placed on either the left or right side. A lot of editing has been used on these pictures, most likely using layers on photoshop. For example: The Grey poster has used a photo layer of the character with a layer of a photo of snow over the top. By blending these together it looks like one whole photo.

Movie Name

After asking a section of my target audience for movie name suggestions and then to pick their favourite, the final name I have decided on is 'Dead Man Walking'. It is simple and doesn't give away too much of the films storyline but has the ability to work for many different storylines. This makes the audience want to see the film to know the reasoning around the name.

Draft 2

I have uploaded my second draft below, having completed more of my trailer and included the feedback from my previous draft. At the beggining of the trailer I have included my two film company logo's which I made by drawing out the designs of paper, scanning them into the computer and using Adobe Flash CS4 and a Graphic Design Tablet to create them. I have also made the ending slightly clearer but have not yet changed the ending title scene. I am currently working on including sound effects into my third draft. I have however, included a voiceover at the end of this trailer. I added the voice over by voice recording a women, uploading it to my computer and adding it into Premiere Pro. I still need to work on adjusting the volume and placement of it within the trailer.

First Draft Feedback

After completing and posting my first draft I have asked three people from my target audience to comment on what they think I could improve on and if there was anything within the trailer they was specifically expecting to see but didn't.

First Trailer Draft

I still have gaps to fill with new clips and some rearranging to do so that the trailer makes more sense but this is my first draft.

0:00 to 0:02 shows the MPAA age rating for the following film trailer. The green band means that the trailer has been approved for appropriate audiences, so will only be shown before a film of the same rating. The green band shows the rating as R - strong disturbing violence and some language. This is typical to most horror/thriller movie trailers. The effect whilst the trailer is beginning and green band is leaving is unusual to most general trailers but a convention of a horror/thriller. It showcases the uncertainty of In-normality of what is happening within the trailer.
0:03 to 0:11 showcases where the trailer is based. I picked this signpost to showcase the location because it is old and ruined - almost like a place where you wouldn't enter and is abandoned. The signpost is also in the actual woods so you can see part of the setting behind. I zoomed in too really showcase the area and create tension as to what is going to happen within the woods.
0:13 to 0:18 shows a figure standing within an open pathway of the woods and then suddenly disappearing when looking back to where the figure was standing. To create the disappearing effect I took two shots of the figure standing in the pathway and one without the figure in the pathway. When filming the second shot I moved the camera suddenly to the right and left to give the impression of looking back quickly. When editing together I used a transition effect to make the two shots run together smoothly as though it is not the editing that has made the figure disappear but that it really did disappear. As the trailer is based on a true  story the scenes must be realistic. I used long wide shots for this scene so that I could show the wooded setting and the figure clearly from head to toe.
0:18 to 0:20 shows that the film is based upon a true story. To add this too the trailer I used a programme within Premiere Pro. By pressing add title I was able to add in a frame with text and black background. I chose the font because it was simple, giving the trailer an eerie effect. This font is commonly used in horror/thriller trailers to state that it is based upon a true story.
0:20 to 0:27 shows the main character of the trailer leaving her home and heading out. Around 0:22 a second layer of film appears showing the girls POV of running through an alley in black and white. The black and white film shows the girl later on during the film when she is in danger and 'running out of fear' or 'running for her life'. The two films contrast with each other showing the calmness and normality of her life before the story begins whilst then showing the drama and action that is set to happen throughout the film. I am still working on editing the two layers together better so the screen is so prominently split down the middle. I chose a long shot for this scene as it shows clearly that she is leaving her house, that she is a young girl and that she is alone - these are all important aspects of the trailer. The black and white scene was filmed on a POV shot so that the audience can get an insight as to what the girl is going through during the film - making them want to know what she was running from and making it clear that there is some horror to be afraid of.
0:27 to 0:35 shows the main character walking towards her destination with again a black and white flash forward of what is going to happen throughout the film. It again contrasts with the calmness of her walking at the time to the action and drama later on.
0:35 to 0:38 shows a text message from an unknown sender. The message reads "If only she could see how guilty you were" implying that whatever happens to the character was inflicted on by someone she knew well. This also implys there is more of a story to who is kidnapping her, and who is messaging the said guilty person. These message could be seen in two ways. One being that the kidnapper is being stalked by somebody who knows their secret and the other being that the kidnapper is trying to set somebody she knows well up. By not making this clear the audience will become more intrigued to the film, making them want to go and see it.
0:38 to 0:43 shows the character walking through the woods as though she was being watched. I used another POV shot here so that the audience could clearly see, through the kidnappers eyes, that she was being watched along her journey.
0:43 to 0:46 shows the a closer shot of the kidnapper as the music speeds up. By placing this scene where the music speeds up it shows the rise it tension and the action is about to start. I have used a long shot from to shows the kidnapper, this allows the audience a glimpse of the kidnappers figure but does still not let them see who it is. I have included a lightning effect over the kidnapper to fit with the music, increased tension and connotes darkness, fear and to a certain extent power.
0:46 to 0:47 shows a title screen stating that the film is made by the same creators as The Ring, a popular 2002 horror thriller movie. This will encourage any fans of The Ring to come and see this film also, encourages fans of the director to see the film and those that generally like a range of horror thriller films.
0:48 to 0:50 shows the character quickly turning around with a look of fear on her face. This connotes that she has heard or seen something to make her want to look behind and what she has or hasn't seen has caused her to become scared or worried.
0:51 to 0:54 shows the second setting of the film. A wide long shot was used to show not only the wooden hut but to emphasize the fact the hut is located within the woods. The lighting behind the hut stands out to show the normality, calmness and safety of outside the woods whilst the hut contrasts with darkness and fear.
0:55 to 0:56 shows a review from Empire magazine a well known film review magazine. Empire states that the movie "Messes with your mind and will have you jumping out of your seating" showing both the horror and thriller aspects of the trailer. By including a review from such as well know reviewer, the audience are more likely to want to see it and decide for themselves or see it simply because they trust in Empires reviews.
1:01 to 1:10 show newspaper clipping stating facts about the characters disappearance. The first paper reads "Major concern for missing girl" showing that she has gone missing and their is evidence found for police to express concern, "Family recieves texts from kidnapper" could possibly link in with the earlier message or be a different storyline. I am again leaving this unclear so that the audience would want to see the film to find out more.
1:11 to 1:14 shows a POV of the character running through an alleyway into the woods. By having the character hold the camera and run the audience can see the story through her eyes which would eventually reveal what truly happened.
1:15 to 1:18 shows the girl and the kidnapper engaged in a struggle within the woods. This shows the connection between the kidnapper and the character and gives the audience a glimpse of the action sequences happening within the film.
1:18 to 1:25 shows a sequence of different past paced shots. This shows the audience the drama that happens within the film and the different action/horror/thriller scenes.

Movie Name Suggestions

I showed my trailer so far to some of my target audience. There suggestions were a short name that was only one word such as a name like 'Emma'. I am going to compose a list of name idea's and ask my audience which one they would most like to see used.

Genre Moodboard

I have chosen to do my moodboard on all things related to horror/thrillers. I showed my moodboard to my target audience before playing my first draft of the trailer to give them an idea of what they should be looking out for. I have included the main colours, films and weapons used in the horror/thriller genre.
My moodboard is also good inspiration for when I start to make my movie poster, this is because all the film posters on the moodboard are of the same genres. From the posters on my moodboard I can see that the victim or the killer is always shown as the focus of the moodboard.
In my moodboard I have also portrayed fear through the use of hands trying to escape and a girl looking shocked and scared. I have included the childs doll toy on the moodboard because it represents the idea of looking at objects in a different light, whilst dolls are an object of fun and laughter to young children to a grown teenager/adult/elderly person they can also be seen as an object that should be feared. This is similar to how in my trailer, the woods would be an area of fun, tree climbing and laughter to young children but to someone the age of my target audience it is seen as an area of danger and threats.
I have included the colours blood red, black and grey on my moodboard because these are the colours most closely linked to the horror/thriller genre. Throughout my trailer you will see a lot of darker colours and dark lighting to give an eerie effect and let the audience be aware of the fact something is not right.
I have included the axe weapon in my trailer, but only very briefly so I do not give too much of the story line away.

Horror Movie Poster Conventions

A typical horror movie poster cliche is the big eye.

Generally within horror movie posters the colour palette involves dark or black colours e.g blacks, greys and sometimes reds. These colours connote the horror genre & represents the feel of the movie and it's characters; most characters are dark and mysterious.
Both the killer and the victim are generally displayed in some way on the poster, although are not always the main focus. The killer most often is not clear and is placed in the background adding to the suspicousness of the audience and their longing to want to know more. They are usually shown dressed in dark clothing and/or with a trademark tool for killing e.g knife, axe - the tool is usually emphasized. The victim is generally displayed in a different context to the rest of the poster such as being represented in a different light or colour to display innocence and purity. A disortion of an outlook of an object is also often used within a poster. Whilst to young children a child's doll is an object of fun and laughter where as a horror movie poster can disort the outlook of this object so that it becomes creepy.

The title on horror/thriller posters are small and generally located at the bottom of the poster as the focus is mainly on the image. Low lighting is also used to disguise the characters so that not too much of the story is given away.

Colour Palette

I chose to make a colour palette because it reflects my genre and appeals to the target audience. Darker reds, browns and greys are used mainly in horror/thriller trailers which is why I have started with a block black. You will mainly find the block black as the background or as dark lighting within a trailer. Reds are closely related to blood and danger fitting in well with the theme. I also chose browny/grey colours to go in my palette because they link with the wooded setting throughout the trailer.

Trailer Font

The font I have used in my trailer is basic and bold. This is common with most thriller/horror trailers - a bold font is generally linked to the male gender which is who the horror/thriller audience is mainly.

I created my font within Adobe Premiere Pro.

Example of The Haunting in Connecticut trailer - Based on a true story.

Magazine Name

I ran a poll on my blog asking people from my target audience to vote on what they think would be the best name for a movie magazine.
My poll has now finished and the most popular name voted was Moving Pictures therefore this is what I shall name my magazine.

USP

The Unique Selling Point of my film trailer is that is based on a true story. This differs to other films as the story is based upon something that actually happened allowing the audience to be more engaged and interested in it. This also allows them to be able to go home and research the story. From my research I found that my target audience found films that were based on a true story scarier than those not because it is more realistic.

Black and White

I am considering making a few of my video's black and white. To do this I have to put an effect on my video called procAmp and then take the saturation down to 0.0% causing the video to turn black and white. Black and White gives a creepy effect to the trailer.

Based On A True Story

I have decided to make my trailer about a film which is based on a true story. From my research I found that people were more interested in films based on a true story as they can go and research the story and find that they can't believe what they are seeing actually resembled a true story. To show that it is based on a true story lots of trailers just used a simple screen with the text 'Based on a true story'. I created my scene using the Title Maker in Adobe Premiere Pro. I was able to create the font, font size and colour on a black screen then position where I wanted it to show.

Editing Trouble

I am currently having trouble in getting two of my video's to play side by side at the same time. I have been able to crop and motion my videos so that there is a split screen and the two video's are shown however I am trying to find a way to fade the video's into one another.

Video Editing

I am currently in the process of editing my film videos on Adobe Premiere Pro. I have already learnt how to cut the videos, change the speed and certain effects such as changing the brightness, colour correction, distorting, transforming and stylizing.

My Film Company Logos

These are my film company logos that will feature shortly in the trailer to show who the film has been produced by. I plan on drawing them on the computer using a Graphics Tablet on Adobe Flash so that I can make them slightly animated.

Film Company Names

I have decided my two film company names will be Waking Dream and Dream Bay Productions. I am now in the process of designing their logo's. This relates to my trailer because throughout any genre trailer the company involved in the production of the films logo is shown.
For example;

Film Company Names

To go with my film company logo I need a company name. Some examples of film company names are:
  • Paramount
  • Warner Bros
  • Trade Mark
  • Universal
  • Walt Disney
  • 20th Century Fox
Film names don't have to be linked with the kind of films that they produce; they can include the company owners name or even be related to nothing at all.

Some film company names I have come up with are:
  • Davis Productions
  • Waking Dream
  • Dream Bay - logo including bay and sunset
  • All Star Productions
  • Sweet Berry

Film Company Logo's

Before I start designing my company film logos I have gathered a few already made ones to gain some insparation.
7 PONIES PRODUCTIONS: I like the fact that the camera film is included in the logo linking with the cinema.

COMPUTER FILM  COMPANY: Again the camera film is included in the logo. The fact it is simple and black and white making it look simple but still showing exactly what it needs to.

DREAM STREET PICTURES: Dream Street Pictures has not included the camera film in their logo however it still has a good logo. I like the three different colours together and the ghosty effect of the perspective road.

MIRAMAX FILMS: Miramax films is a basic logo again only black and white. I like the fact that Miramax is so bold and stands out allowing people to remember the company name.

PARAMOUNT: Paramount is one of the most known logo's. I like the font for paramount and the stars round the circle. It is different to the other logos because it included a lot of colour and an image.

REEL FARM: Reel Farm has a great logo because they have linked both the cinema and farm theme together. I like the fact that the image has included the camera reels and a tractor.

From these logos I have decided that I want my image logo to link in with the name of my company. It will most likely be a black background with white writing because I feel that this stands out well.  I also like the idea of including in the image either a Camera Reel or a Camera Film.
Images I am most likely to include in my logo are:

Video Editing

I have begun editing my videos on Premiere Pro and am currently playing around and finding out what different things I can do to enhance my trailer even further. I have discovered that by Rendering my video's it reduces the lag allowing them to move smoothly rather than jump.

The Sepia effect is one that has really stood out to me so far as it gives some of my clips a great eerie feeling and shows the uncertainty of the scene.

Magazine name Poll

I have created a Poll to decide my film magazine name. I am currently waiting for feedback.
This is the email I sent to ask part of my target audience for their feedback.
This is the poll located on the right hand side of my blog.

Ancillary Task 1 - Magazine Front Cover

Possible Names;
  • Film Scene
  • On Screen
  • Moving Pictures
  • Front Seat
I will create a poll on my blog to help with deciding the film name. I have taken insparation from other film magazine names such as Total Film, Entertainment Weekly and Empire Magazine. The name of the magazine should not reflect the genre of my trailer as the magazine will also be advertising other film genres such as Comedy and Action.
For example;
Total Film magazine includes Iron Man 2 which is an Action Adventure film as well as Alice in Wonderland which is Family Fantasy.

Adobe Premiere Pro

I have just started to work in Adobe Premiere Pro and am trying out different editing techniques and finding out what different sorts of things I can do with my work.

Focus Group

Due to some travelling and time issues I have had to conduct my focus group over the phone whilst emailing them the footage to look at. I have written all their feedback down here;

I plan on creating another focus group where I can videotape the feedback that my target audience gives.

Focus Group

Today I am conducting a focus group of people that would fit my target audience. I am going to show them some of the footage I had shot so far and ask for their opinions. Once I have all the results I will upload them to my blog.

Problems/Issues

I have began filming and found that finding the exact lighting I want is very difficult and that I am going to have to rely on editing to make some of my shots perfect. I will begin my editing next week using Adobe Premiere Pro.

Possible Fonts?

These are four possible fonts I am going to use for my trailer text. To help me decide I am going to show them to a range of my target audience and have them decide which is the best option.

Sound Recordings

I recorded some sounds that I could use in my trailer

Axe sound :

Footstep sound 1:

Footstep sound 2:

Stepping on twig sound:

Stick snapping sound:

Thriller Research

CAMERA;
From my research I have found that establishing shots have been used in many thriller trailers as too set the scene so this something I will definitely include in my trailer. Long Shots, Mid Shots, Close Ups and Extreme Close Ups are all also commonly used in thriller trailers.

The two most commonly used shots are mid shots and close ups as these portray the emotion and generally fear of the character. The eyes can clearly be seen in a close up which is where a lot of emotion is portrayed and also evil is shown.

Low and High Angles are significantly used throughout a thriller to show the everchanging power of a character. Those filmed using a high angle are seen to be less powerful and those filmed using a Low Angle are seen to be the most dominant and in charge. From my research I also found that Eye Level was used a lot in thrillers to show a whole set of what is going on in the scene.

Storyboard

This is my first storyboard that I plan to follow however when filming I may make a few changes or add extra's.

The first section of my storyboard shows the beginning of the trailer. I have decided to start my trailer off with an establishing shot as I found from my research that this was a convention that most thriller/horror trailers used. I want my second scene to fade in and set the scene of the trailer but showing all of the characters involved except for the killer. In this scene I also plan to have the mobile phone sound effect to alert the audience that someone has received a message. The third scene shows the Father to be reading the text and showing the emotion of shock or worry. This implies that something about the text was unusual. The next scene shows a close up of the eyes quickly to again express the emotion in the characters face. A black screen will then quickly flash up to show a different setting and the start of a darker eeriness. I plan to film the next scene in daylight to show the normality of the scene as it only shows the girl leaving her house; however as the scenes go on I plan for them to get slightly darker creating more of an atmosphere. Scene number 8 shows the first shot of the 'psycopath'. The character will be stood watching the victim as she enters the woods and will have a costume of fully black clothing to blend in with the darkness. The character will have the hood placed up and draped over their face so that the audience doesn't already know who he/she is. The scene will be set in the woods with dark lighting. Scene number 9 involves the father or mother recieving a text message which is threataning making the audience correctly assume that the messages are coming from the hooded figure they saw in the woods allowing them to understand the storyline more. A series of close ups will be used for dramatic effect to show the text message on the phone. I have not yet decided the what the message will say exactly but I will include this in my script when I upload it. In scene 10 the tone suddenly changes to fast paced and scary. A dolly shot/hand held shot is used to show the trailer from the victims POV. Sound effects of heavy breathing and footsteps will be included in this scene. Scenes 10-12 show the more action side to the trailer; these scenes will be the most fast paced. Scene number 11 shows the victim inside the 'psycopaths' hut in the woods - this is the first time the audience are introduced to this location. This scene will be set in evening lighting so it is dark enough in the woods for the scene but still clear enough to be able to see what is going on. There will be a zoom into the hut and then a sudden flash of light showing the eyes. The next scene shows a sruggle between the victim and the psycopath. I plan for this to be in the woods in a dark setting so you can see the outline of the two but not giving too much away - this would make the audience want to find out if the victim survived the struggle.
