How to analyse a film trailer...

In a film trailer you can analyse the:
  • Unique Selling Point (USP) - This is a point that makes this film (trailer) different from the rest or something unique to draw the audience in. It could be the director of the film or an actors name e.g the Goodfella's trailer features Robert De Niro's name; this is a unique selling point because people will heavily associate his name with good films of that particular genre due to his involvement in Godfather II. A unique selling point can also be when an actor features in a film they are not usually associated with such as Adam Sandler a comedy actor being in an action packed thriller.
  • Sound - Music/Voiceover/Dialogue/Sound Effects
  • Editing - Pace, Special Effects, Transitions, Shot-Reverse-Shot, Match-on Action e.t.c
  • Credits and Intertitles - Names, Awards
  • Institutional Reference
  • Shot types/Camera angles and movement
  • Mise En Scene - lighting, costume, props, location, make-up, hair
  • Genre
  • Narrative
  • Representation
  • (Target) Audience
  • Structure
